Monochrome Muse: Frida’s Reflection Painting

70 inches by x 44 inches acrylic on unstretched canvas. The painting ships in a tube.

This painting will arrive rolled in a dent-resistant tube. This method is especially safe for oversized works, and provides lower shipping costs as well. Rolled works can be easily stretched (for canvas works, i.e. placed onto wooden stretcher bars) and/or framed by a local framer upon arrival.

My painting of Frida Kalho, the great artist, shows an abstract, monochromatic portrait of her. I am an admirer of her art. She painted a lot of self portraits and said, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." Her husband, the great muralist Diego Rivera said of her, "She is the only woman who has expressed in her work an art of the feelings, functions, and creative power of women. Because of this kind of feeling about her I felt a need to paint her portrait.
